Maya® 6, the latest version of award-winning Maya software,
is packed with hundreds of new features and enhancements most requested
by our customers to specifically meet artists’ everyday production

- Animation – Enhancements to Trax™, the software’s
popular non-linear animation editor has a new user interface,
editing abilities and support for expressions and constraints.
Other additions such as Motion Retargeting and Motion Redirection
give animators unparalleled power and flexibility. Trax™
- Maya Hair – Maya Unlimited now includes a new hair and
dynamic curves feature set to allow artists to quickly and easily
create long hair that reacts naturally to dynamic forces and can
be constrained into hairstyles. These robust native and integrated
tools make creating and working with long hair fast and easy.
- Tools for advanced characters – Improvements in Maya
Cloth streamline the process of creating character clothing; Maya
Fur can now be rendered in mental ray® for Maya – taking
advantage of the advanced lighting effects that mental ray is
famous for.
Enhanced scene management and workflow improvements
- Performance improvements – Maya 6 has been optimized
throughout. For example: the Smooth Proxy is up to 18 times faster,
and Subdivision Surface performance is up to 8 times faster.
- Scene management tools – New file referencing, scene
segmentation and shader organization features make it easier to
manage large data sets, and is particularly useful for film and

Adobe® Photoshop® – New integration with the industry’s
favorite texture and matte painting creation tool results in a
more streamlined workflow to make your job easier.
- Web browser in a Maya panel – Create and view interactive
Web pages that can contain MEL scripts in the form of MEL URLs
– an easy way to extend the Maya user interface or manage

Support for new file formats, DDS and PNG – Using the DDS
file format is crucial if you’re a game developer working
with Direct X; the PNG format is the standard for game developers
creating titles for the Play Station 2.
