HIDING OBJECTS DURING ANIMATION
Sometimes you'll need to have an object hide or appear during an animation.
The Display panel's Hide rollout has options for hiding objects while
you're working with the scene, but these options won't make an object
hide or appear during a rendering. For this you need something called
a Visibility Track, which can be added in Track View.
Hiding objects during animation
Learn how to hide objects during animation using the trackview editor.
Covers both periodic visibility alterations or gradual fading.
How to anchor feet in CS while in Free Form Mode
Nailing down feet in Character Studio R2 in a Free Form animation can
be a little tricky. But, with some practice you’ll see that it is
actually very simple as long as you follow a few basic rules. Below is
a quick tutorial on how to nail down those Biped feet. As you will see
there’s no foot slippage or otherwise unwanted movements using these
tools.
How to animate a Dolphin
You can animate a dolphin using bones, just like in LightWave 3d, but
if you want to do the same on 3DStudio Max you will need phisique or use
morphs targets, but the final result won't be enought, morphing between
meshes will do the movement, but not the perfect effect that the dolphin
is moving across the ocean. Using bones can be a long way also,so what
can we do?, well, we can take advantage of the animatings tools from max,
this is only a tutorial on how to animate,so don't bother about the ocean
or the scene,it only explains the movement.
Lip Sync - Making Characters Speak
Lip sync is the art of taking a pre-recorded track of dialogue, and
making a character appear to speak it. This involves figuring out the
timings of the speech (breakdown) as well as the actual animating of the
lips/mouth. In addition making the actual setup or mouth phonemes needed
can also be considered a part of the entire Lip Sync process for 3D.
Lip Sync - Making Characters Speak
Chances are if you've ever animated a character, you've needed or wanted
to make it talk, sing, or otherwise communicate via dialogue of some sort.

LIQUID MOVING IN A GLASS
In this tutorial you will learn how to animate liquid that is in glass,
using the Vol. Select modifier and Noise. The Vol. Select modifier makes
only the top of the liquid move when the Noise modifier is animated.
Making objects splat
This tutorial is going to introduce metaballs and a few tricks within
max. Basically what it is going to cover is how to get an object to fly
at another object at high speed and splatter allover it, primarily using
particles and a tiny bit of key framed animation. This tutorial assumes
you know a bit about max, and as always the more you know the better.
Morphing ( part 1 of 2 of animation series )
This tutorial covers the morph modifier and how to use it to animate
the surface of objects. Usefull for character facial animation.
Movement of the automobile on a line.
How to begin creation of realistic model of movement of the automobile
on turns, it is necessary to specify, how many the centres of rotation
are involved at the moment of turn. In the normal machine, with one rudder
and four wheels of them only three - one in the centre of the back bridge
and on one in the centre of each forward wheel. However, even if wheels
will be six, the amount of the centres remain the same, main design feature
- on the centre in each steering wheel and still the centre between all
others.
Rolling A Ball Along A Path by Ben Cowell
This is a very simple tutorial describing how to animate a ball or a
wheel rolling down an irregular path. It was devised by my in answer to
a need for a car which could drive around corners but still have the wheels
rotate accordingly. I assume you know a fair amount about MAX and won't
bother explaining every little detail.
SETTING UP A CHARACTER WITH IK SOLVERS
IK Solvers are a new feature of 3ds max 4. There are three IK Solvers
available from the Animation menu: HD Solver, HI Solver and IK Limb Solver.
For character animation with 3ds max 4, the HI Solver is the best solution.
HD Solvers should only be used for mechanical animation or for animation
that needs to be compatible with 3D Studio MAX R3. IK Limb Solvers are
primarily for game development.
Setting up a figure with IK legs.
This tutorial is designed to take you very quickly through the process
of boning and setting up a figure with IK ready for animation. Note that
this set-up is simply for the legs, and represents only one solution for
wiring a figure. Work your way through and then try to expand and experiment
with the techniques.
SETTING UP SLIDERS FOR DEFINED KEY POSES
The main idea of this approach (which is especially useful for character
& facial animation) is the following: First of all you create special
key poses (e.g. facial animations such as laughing, crying, kissing etc.)
to which you assign a slider. With the help of those sliders the strength
of each key pose is controlled in every frame. After the setup of the
key poses has been done, the actual animation of the character consists
in controlling the different existing key poses with the help of the sliders
in the correct relation & timing.
Sliders and wiring ( part 2 of 2 of animation series )
This section of the 2 part tutorial covers how to link animatable properties
up to visual sliders and use mathematical calculations to determine the
end result.
Space Ship in 2 hours
So, here we are, a sphere. As I (or You) have to produce few dozens
of such flying ships, there is not much time to create hundreds of NURB
profiles and metaballs - in the best case, this space ship will have later
size of maximal 50*50 pixels!
Timmy Foo Animation Tutorial, model included.
This is a introduction tutorial on animating Timmy Foo. The model is
available for download.
Using the skin modifier
This tutorial explains how to use objects and/or bones to simulate animation
from within an object using the skin modifier.
Walking on a Path
For today’s exciting walk animation tutorial I’ll be using
3DSMax R2.5 and the plugin known as Character Studio R2. However, I’ll
be focusing on technique over tool features or functionality so you can
apply the lesson to any package. Thusly you need to understand really
complex terminology like rotation and view and axes
Walking the Dog with character studio 3
New character studio users sometimes have trouble getting their heads
around the whole freeform/inverse kinematic (IK) thing. With character
studio 3's new IK controls, commonly used sets of IK parameters
can be set at the click of a button, making it easy to get an animation
going quickly. For experienced freeform users, character studio
3 has much-longed-for tools such as animatable pivot points and
instant pinning of a hand or foot to a previous key.
