Materials and Shaders
Photo realistic texturing with photoshop and max
Even dough this tutorial uses 3d max, I'm sure that people using
other 3d packages would benefit from it since the tutorial is mostly
dedicated to painting textures with photoshop, but I will also supply
with a leaf model in other formats if you want to import it to your
3d package, note that the leaf model already has texture coordinates
so you would simply have to take a screenshot of the uv map or bake
the procedural color in order to follow along in the painting section.
A Simple Reflective Orb
The following is a very basic tutorial on how to create a reflective
marble, or glass orb.
Advanced water material tutorial
So you want to make some water that reflects the objects in the
scene?
Anisotropic Reflections
What are Anisotropic Reflections? Well, some people have seen
some recent images rendered with the renderer Brazil, and some have
noticed a shader type in 3DStudio MAX called anisotropic, and we
see anisotropic effects everyday of our lives without really knowing
we're seeing them. So the purpose of this lesson is to discuss what
they are, how they work in the real world, and how that translates
to the 3d world.
Applying Multiple Texture Mappings to a Single Object in 3D Studio
Max 2.5
Two of the most annoying problems associated with 3D object texture
mapping are "stretching" and visible seams. These problems
can destroy an objects believability, making them look artificial...
Brick Wall
This tutorial I'll demonstrate how to create a nice brick wall
using bitmaps. As simple it sounds you may not get a realistic result
when it comes to corners.
Car mapping
This tutorial is a combination of two tutorials I made earlier
and applied to a real-life example.
CEL Shader: Chapter 1
Although this tutorial is quite basic, the end effect can be useful
and in some cases save you a lot of money. This tutorial goes through
the steps on how to create a cel shader for max. All it really is
is a simple material with falloff and some other settings to create
a basic ink effect.
CEL Shader: Chapter 2
In my previous article I went into the extreme basics on how to
make a basic cel shader, I figure in my spare time I'll try to go
a bit more in depth on how to make a more effective shader.
Coke can
Making a realistic, scratched coke can.
Complex Organic Materials Using Falloff
Here's a tutorial discussing two materials, both using falloff,
and how I made them.
Complex Shaders Using Procedurals, The Green Tongue
Procedurals are mathematical algorithms that are used to produce
patterns. While not as easily controllable as bitmaps, they have
some serious advantages...
Creating a realistic apple using only procedural textures
In this tutorial I will show you how to create a photo realistic
apple using only procedural maps.
Creating realistic and reusable textures using the COMPOSITE MAP
The Composite map allows multiple maps to be stacked on top of
one another within a map slot, how they interact is controlled by
each maps' output settings and/or their Alpha channels....
Creating Realistic Water with Wakes
So, you want to make water? Well, here it comes...
Flat Mirror
Simple procedure to create a reflective mirror.
How to get CS maps on 3dsmax
Bringing counterstrike maps into Max
Hull Damage
Want to know how to tear up your favorite starship without actually
messing up the mesh? Use textures.
Ink 'n Paint Shading
Toon shading in max 5
Make a ceramic tile
Material settings to create realist ceramic tiles.
